    Leva Energy Wins $250K Award from San Joaquin Valley Technology Advancement Program

Selection by an influential air-pollution control district validates Leva’s technology as a viable way for businesses to meet stringent air-quality regulations in tough economic times.

    Leva Energy Inc., the cleantech company that leverages hot-water and steam boilers to produce clean and cost-effective electric power, has been awarded $250,000 by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District’s Technology Advancement Program. The award green-lights Leva to fabricate and install a Power Burner 100 at a designated host site, where it will undergo testing and validation to demonstrate that it can enable local businesses to meet the District’s stringent clean-air certification requirements.

    The award is a significant milestone for both Leva Energy and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. For the first time in the District’s history of regulating NOx emissions on boilers, businesses that install the Power Burner 100 will achieve a quick payback on their ultra-low NOx compliance investment by generating clean electrical power that offsets their use of grid power. For example, a business with a 10 million BTU/hour boiler can take advantage of the Power Burner to meet ultra-low NOx (<9 ppm) — and additionally generate 100 kWe the most efficient way possible for gas-fired distributed generation.

The Power Burner surpasses the District’s NOx regulations and gives businesses an opportunity to quickly recoup their investment in clean-air technology,” said Franco Castaldini, president and co-founder of Leva Energy. “Other air-quality districts around the country are watching this test with interest because it will prove that tougher environmental standards do not necessarily end up costing businesses money. On the contrary: this technology pays for itself.”

    How does Leva Energy CHP technology work?

    The Leva Energy Power Burner 100 is the only CHP technology that delivers 90% fuel-electricity efficiency, meets stringent air-quality regulations, and consistently yields a two-year payback. The Power Burner is compatible with any existing firetube or watertube boiler typically used by hospitals, hotels, universities, food processors and manufacturers. It replaces an aging, inefficient burner with a technologically advanced power-generating burner that provides clean thermal energy while simultaneously generating electrical power at a fraction of today’s commercial and industrial rates. The Power Burner operates at 3% O2 while emitting less than 9ppm NOx, and qualifies for the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) recently expanded Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP).
