LG's Prada 3.0 pictured and detailed ahead of glitzy launch

LG has revealed almost all the details concerning its third phone collaboration with Italian fashion house Prada, just ahead of its special launch event to be held later today. The original KE850 Prada was launched way back in 2007 and was followed by the KF900 Prada II in 2008. Now, three years later, the LG Prada 3.0 is the first of the franchise to crossover into smartphone territory, but has it got what it takes to standout in a very crowded market?

For a haute couture phone, the Prada 3.0 is rather restrained in the styling department, with a subtly textured rear panel and a simple, monolithic chassis design. But like every good Prada model should be, it’s slim at just 8.5mm thick. The front panel is dominated by the 4.3-inch NOVA touchscreen, boasting an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, along with a selection of four capacitive buttons underneath.

These should tell you that the Prada 3.0 is running Google Android, but it’s Gingerbread rather than the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version. Prada has had a hand in designing the custom UI used over Android, which appears to include monochrome icons and Prada-themed wallpaper. There is even a bold clock face which harks back to those used on the early LG Prada phones.

At the Prada 3.0′s heart is a 1Ghz dual-core processor from Texas Instruments, while an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording sits at the top of the rear panel, which is joined by a 1.3-megapixel video-call lens around the front. LG says the phone has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and HSPA+ connectivity too.

Expect all the Prada details along with the finalized phone specification to follow after the official launch later today.
