'Life in Pieces' Preview: NFL Legend Marshall Faulk Is Tim's New BFF

You’d think marrieds Heather (Betsy Brandt) and Tim (Dan Bakkedahl) had just won the lottery given how excited they are after a boring old dinner with one of Dr. Tim’s patients… because it turns out they did. Win the lottery that is. And their prize is cool new couples friends.

In this week’s episode of CBS’s freshman comedy Life in Pieces, Heather’s bummed to find out her dinner date with her hubby is a double date with Tim’s chronic ear infection patient. But when they learn the patient’s husband is NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl winner Marshall Faulk, Heather and Tim are not only giddy, but anxious to lock down additional plans with that most elusive item on the married-couple wishlist: fun and compatible couples friends.

Meanwhile, new papa Greg (Colin Hanks) is so paranoid about the baby that he insists he and wife Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones) take separate flights in case something happens to one of their planes; Matt (Thomas Sadoski) and John (James Brolin) take new widower neighbor Gary (guest star Martin Mull) out to meet women; and Matt gets a surprise visit from his ex-wife, Bonnie (Brenda Song). Pieces, which will welcome guest stars Josh Groban and Kat Von D later this season, also boasts an Oscar-winning guest star behind-the-scenes this week: Helen Hunt directed Thursday’s episode, entitled “Bite Flight Wing-Man Bonnie.”

Life in Pieces airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on CBS
