    LIFESAVER Shown to Exceed the EPA’s Requirements for Water Filtration

    LIFESAVER water filtration devices, the Bottle, the Jerrycan, and the Hydrocarry II, have been found by the London School of Tropical Medicine to exceed the National Sanitation Foundation’s P248 for Emergency Military Operations using Microbiological Water Purifiers which includes requirements established by the EPA in the Safe Drinking Water Act for water filtration.

    Protocol P248 was derived and adapted primarily from existing publications of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and NSF Intl. It describes the procedures to be used to test individual water purifiers (IWPs) designed to achieve removal or inactivation of microbiological contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and protozoan cysts and oocysts from virtually any fresh water source likely to be encountered by military personnel during exercises and deployments. Execution of this protocol for acceptance of an individual water purifier (IWP) will be administered and monitored by a Government Review Agency (GRA) designated by the Department of the Army Office of the Surgeon General (OTSG). For the purposes of this protocol, and with reference to their use for military personnel in emergency situations, IWPs for microbiological purification are not intended to significantly remove chemical contamination.

    The London School of Tropical Medicine noted in the conclusions of their evaluation that “the Lifesaver units removed all bacteria and viruses from a contaminated water source in excess of legal requirements and as such, complies with the National Sanitation Foundation’s NSF P231 & NSF P248 protocols as well as all British, US and European Drinking Water Regulations for Microbiological Reduction.”

    Lifesaver intends to apply to the National Sanitation Foundation in Ann Arbor, Michigan for evaluation of it's latest product the Hydrocarry II. The Hydrocarry II is aimed at providing clean drinking water through filtration to the military environment which will reduce the need to carry the excessive weight of bottled water and substantially reduce pack weights.
