DMV woman helps families find low-cost, free activities outside for kids

VIRGINIA (DC News Now) — With the warmer temperatures, a lot of families may be looking to get outside.

“It is expensive to live around here, but getting out with your kid is important,” said Ellie Reilly.

Reilly started her social media account Kids Around the DMV to help families find low-cost and free things to do.

“There are also a lot of things in the area that the state or local government offer for free for everybody to join in, it’s good to find these so you can have a nice day out without breaking the bank,” said Reilly.

One of her recommendations is Potomac Overlook Regional Park in Northern Virginia.
Reilly says it has easy walking trails and a beautiful nature center.

‘Within this nature center there are live turtles, snakes and frogs,” said Reilly. “They have a neat bird observation area that has books and other diagrams to tell you about the birds you area seeing.”

These are just some of the many things offered at the park.

“It’s also free, and nothing beats doing a free activity,” said Reilly.
