COMMENTARY | I'm a liberal American who believes the second amendment in our founding documents is right. Let's all be clear on that. Although I've never owned a firearm in my life, it's still a uniquely American right. We owe it to ourselves, our families and America to continue in possessing firearms.
So, as I read of the disgusting lies told by Attorney General Eric Holder in regards to the embarrassment known as "Operation Fast and Furious" as explained by FOX News, I all but give up on anyone in power. It seems almost as if the members of our government want gun ownership to seem "wrong" in hopes of disarming the population. It's a topic over which Republicans are willing to fight, too, as demonstrated in an Associated Press report.
For those not in the loop, Operation Fast and Furious was an undercover operation set up by power-hungry politicians in Washington D.C., whereby firearms were sold to members of Mexican drug cartels, in an effort to "make a case" for further restrictions on gun ownership in America. Our own Attorney General -- Eric holder -- is alleged to have attempted to make it appear that gun dealers were allowing firearms to fall into the hands of bad people.
In the course of the operation, a Border Patrol agent was killed with one of those guns. America lost Agent Brian Terry because some bureaucrat doesn't want people owning guns. In the process of trying to make a person's right to self-defense look bad, a good man was killed. Instead of making gun owners look bad, though, those bureaucrats only managed to reveal themselves as the underhanded tricksters they are. Chief of those tricksters? U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
Were Eric Holder desirous of being respected as a leader, he'd step down from his position. In light of the current investigation, his stepping down would demonstrate his love for the office, for law enforcement in general as well as the proper respect for the American government itself. As long as he holds onto his office, he only demonstrates his level of self-interest.
In the hopes of restoring credibility to the office of Attorney General, Eric Holder should step down from his position during an investigation wherein even Janet Napolitano admits mistakes were made. If nothing else, he'll show he cares about more than just himself
