Linda Christian, the first Bond girl, dies at 87

PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) — Linda Christian, the Hollywood starlet of the 1940s who married heartthrob Tyrone Power and went on to become the first Bond girl, has died.

Her daughter, Romina Power, says Christian died Friday in Palm Desert after battling colon cancer. She was 87.

Born in Mexico, Christian pursued an acting career in Los Angeles and eventually signed a contract with MGM. She made her film debut alongside Danny Kaye in the 1944 musical comedy Up In Arms.

A year after appearing in 1948's Tarzan and the Mermaids, Christian married Power, one of Hollywood's most popular leading men. They divorced in 1956.

Christian's famous curves led Life magazine to nickname her the "anatomic bomb."

In 1954 she starred as James Bond's love interest in the television adaptation of the novel Casino Royale.

She is survived by Romina Power, her sister Taryn Power and eight grandchildren.

Even in B&W she was hot. This was before women spent thousand on plastic surgery.

Thousands? Man, I WISH I could find a woman who only cost me Thousands! That is why I prefer to RENT....It's not like I'm paying for the sex...I'm paying for the woman to GO AWAY after the sex!

On a serious note: To her family, I am sorry for your loss.

I bought her autobiography that she wrote in 1962 titled "Linda" at a used bookstore in Seattle. It was fairly tame by todays standards considering all the things she was involved with. She was a very beautiful woman from her photographs. Her 23 year-old granddaughter Ylenia Carrisi went missing in New Orleans in 1994 and has never been found. I'm sorry she died before finding out what happened to her.

She's not an EON Bondgirl the ones we all know from the films, she was from the teleplay Casino Royale where Bond was American 'Jimmy Bond'. She played Valerie Mathis, instead of Vesper Lind. Still she was a beautiful lady very sad.
      • Mike 10 mths ago
I don't know what a teleplay is....Jimmy Bond? Did he use the line "Bond, Jim Bond?"...lol. Whatever Jordan..... I NEVER saw a Bond girl I didn't like! I say again - RIP Lady!

      A true beauty.
The idea of what constitutes a beautiful woman these days is sure skewed.
What is it with all this big lips, fatazz, tattooed, funky hair, phony lezzie, trash behavior garbage?

She was a true, great beauty and many thought that she was much more beautiful in person than any photo or screen role could capture. Orson Wells, who know something about female beauty (married to Mexican Rita Hayworth) said she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She never got over the death of Tyrone Power. Why is there no photo of this great Mexican beauty?

Tyrone Power and old Hollywood, ah the movies that came from that era, are priceless.
Just watched the old one on tmc called Caged, Outstanding.
Black and white offers more than any color movie, the shadows tell all!
And Rosebud was the name of the sled in Orsen Wells first movie, Citizen Cane!
