Storm updates: Hail up to golf ball size in parts of Tarrant County; tornado watch expires

Areas in Tarrant County were hit with hail up to golf ball size during severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon.

Parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and North Texas were under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flood watch is in effect through Sunday afternoon for counties including Tarrant, Dallas, Collin, Cooke, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Parker, Wise, Hood, Montague, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Somervell, Henderson, Bosque, Hill, Navarro and McLennan.

Golf ball-size hail was reported in the Arlington area around 12:20 p.m. and in southeast Fort Worth near Little Road and Interstate 20 about 12:10 p.m., according to the weather service.

Quarter-size hail was reported Friday afternoon near Burleson, Arlington and Kennedale.

Penny-size hail was reported near Saginaw and Blue Mound around 10:30 a.m.

The weather service also reported damage from a possible tornado in McLennan County shortly before 1 p.m. Photos showed damage from north of the town of Tours to Penelope and in the China Spring area, the weather service said. Those areas are north of Waco and about 80 miles south of Fort Worth.

A tornado sighting also was reported during a warning close to FM 477 near Brushie Prairie in western Navarro County, the NWS said.

Around 5:20 p.m., flash flooding was reported in Kaufman County, with several inches of water inside four homes. One lane of Highway 175 was closed at Highway 34 and high water rescues were requested.

Also in Kaufman County, there were reports of several trees down near Becker, including one that fell on a house.

The tornado watch included Tarrant, Dallas, Collin, Ellis and Johnson counties in the DFW area as well as more counties to the south and east.

North Texas is in store for several rounds of severe weather this weekend, with large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes and flooding all possible.

Another round of storms is forecast Saturday, as a dryline will initiate storms west of the Metroplex, according to the NWS. Severe storm timing on Saturday is expected to be afternoon through overnight.

More storms are expected to develop on Sunday, mainly east of Interstate 35. Severe storm timing looks to be in the afternoon to evening hours.
