  • Court decision awaited in race for supervisor

    JOHNSTOWN - The two candidates for Broadalbin town supervisor are awaiting a decision from state Supreme Court Justice Richard T. Aulisi regarding the outcome of the race. Joseph DiGiacomo won the election, according to the Board of Elections, but candidate George Walters challenged the outcome in court.   • Pipe break closes two Gloversville schools

    GLOVERSVILLE - Gloversville High School and the middle school were closed today after a water-main break caused a deluge of water to pour from pavement behind the high school. Director of Operations Bill Ferguson said a maintenance worker at the school at around 2 a.m. to plow and prepare the parking lots and roads saw a spring of water coming from the pavement behind the high schoo.   • Former Y to become private residence

    JOHNSTOWN - The owner of the three-story building that housed the former Johnstown branch of the Fulton County YMCA at North Market and Church streets said he is converting it into a "fun" private residence. Dr. George Regan of Gorham, N.H., bought the building on Dec. 5, 2008, from the Johnstown YMCA Association for $45,000. Full Story »

  • Local officials say extent of delay's effect unknown

  • Hospital gets $350K for ER project

    GLOVERSVILLE - Nathan Litauer Hospital officials will receive an unexpected $350,000 to help pay for its emergency room expansion project, hospital officials said this morning. U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, secured the funding for the hospital when he voted for the Consolidated Appropriations legislation, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week. Full Story »

    JOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Board of Supervisors' Finance Committee Thursday approved the filling of two vacant typist positions in the Department of Social Services after hearing from an official that agency staff is increasingly busy and stressed.   • Storm temporarily KO's two Broadalbin snowplow trucks

    BROADALBIN - Two snowplow trucks broke down Wednesday morning during the snow storm, according to Broadalbin Highway Superintendent Donald Loveless Jr. "When the hydraulic parts of the truck don't get used all summer long they end up rotting, and then when pressure gets put on them again in the winter they start blowing," Loveless sai.     MAYFIELD - More than 20 years of holiday tradition took over the Mayfield Fire House on Saturday night for Mayfield's annual holiday tree lighting.   • Beech-Nut on schedule for move to new facility

    FLORIDA - Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. has completed construction of its new facility in the Florida Business Park, and company officials say they are on schedule to begin production there in the spring. The company has not begun to move manufacturing equipment to its new factory, but it did move its 35 corporate administrative employees from temporary Latham offices to the new facility in November.   • Northville school to propose project

    NORTHVILLE - The Northville Central School District will propose a $3.8 million capital improvement project. The district has not yet decided when the project will be put up for a public vote.
