    A plainclothes NYPD sergeant shot and killed an armed man outside the Marriott Marquis hotel, just steps from Times Square. Raymond Martinez, 25, of the Bronx, and his brother were trying to get tourists to buy CDs just before noon when the sergeant, who was in an undercover detail that cracks down on street vendors and aggressive panhandlers, recognized Martinez, Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.     All lanes have reopened on the east bound Long Island Expressway. A collision near Main Street in Flushing involving a van, tractor trailer and another vehicle lead to the closure of all lanes just befoe 7 a.m.  At least three people were taken away on stretchers.   • Taconic Crash: Lawsuit Filed

    The family of two of the men killed in the wrong-way collision on the Taconic State Parkway in July has filed a lawsuit. The accident was the deadliest car crash in Westchester County in a quarter century. Eight people were killed; including four young children and Diane Schuler, the driver investigators say caused the tragedy by driving drunk and high the wrong way on the parkway. Full Story »
