  • Packard Mansion Sells For $3 Million

    A historic home in Chautauqua County is no longer on the market, thanks to a $3 million deal. Richard Benedetto, broker and co-owner of Real Estate Advantage, reported that his firm will be closing out this year with the recent sale of the Packard Manor Estate at 10 Elm Lane. The property located on the shores of Chautauqua Lake sold for a reported $3 million. Full Story »

  • Unduly Terminated

    MAYVILLE - Celoron Mayor John Keeney was wrong when he fired Rick Slagle, former village Code Enforcement Officer, in August. That was the ruling in State Supreme Court on Monday when Judge James Dillon, in less than an hour, ruled that Slagle was unduly terminated during his two-year appointed term. "Frankly," the judge said, "I believe that when he was appointed, it was for a two-year term. Full Story »

  • Council: Public Safety Cuts 'Inevitable'

That was the message Monday night as the Jamestown City Council began combing through the proposed 2010 city fire and police budgets - a tough review each year because public safety is, by far, the city's single largest expenditure but also the one service a community cannot do without.   • Garage Fire Shuts Down Portion Of Baker Street Extension

    Four area fire departments have responded to a garage fire at 4129 Baker Street Extension in the town of Busti. While the fire has been contained and did not spread to the adjacent home, the road between Shadyshide Road and Winch Road is likely to remain closed into the noon hour, reports Busti Fire Chief Jack Henderson.   • Stocks Hit New Highs In Early Trading

    NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks jumped to new highs for the year Monday as the dollar extended its slide, boosting prices for commodities including oil and gold. Investors were also buying on growing confidence about the global economic recovery, getting a shot of optimism from news this weekend that the Group of 20 countries will keep stimulus measures in place.   • Slagle Wins Suit Against Celoron Mayor

    Rick Slagle, former Celoron Village code enforcement officer, this morning won a suit based on what the state Supreme Court agrees was his unlawful termination by Celoron Mayor John Keeney. The suit was heard in state Supreme Court this morning. Judge James Dillon awarded Slagle back pay, but did not order his reinstatement. Full Story »

City officials are in negotiations with the Kendall Club Police Benevolent Association, the Jamestown Professional Firefighters Association Local 1772 and the Jamestown City Administrative Association, which represents about 36 administrative employees.   • Orlando Office Building Gunman Surrenders

    ORLANDO, Fla. - Police say a former employee accused of fatally shooting one person and wounding five others at an Orlando, Fla., engineering firm Friday afternoon thought it had blocked his efforts to obtain unemployment benefits. Police say Jason Rodriguez told detectives after the shooting that his bosses at Reynolds, Smith and Hills had fired him two years ago for no good reason. Full Story »

  • Police Investigating Incident Near JHS

    The precautionary lockdown of Jamestown High School was lifted at 12:34 p.m. after Jamestown police officers and state troopers cleared the area around the building.
