The Visalia Unified School District is preparing for some major budget cuts. Thanks to a state reduction of $10 million to the school district’s general fund. The district is being forced to compensate. On July 1st of 2010 the board will reduce the budget by $5.5 million. Another $4.5 million will be cut the following year. Full Story »

Central Valley citrus growers escaped serious freeze damage Monday night, but are bracing for more cold. Temperatures dropped to about 28 degrees early Monday night, but didn’t stay below that for long. A small plane crashed at the Fresno Airport this afternoon. Airport officials say the student pilot had head and facial injuries. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The pilot had just taken off when he told the tower he needed to return to the airport. The incident happened on the west side of the airport. Full Story »

The competition cheer squad at Rio Vista Middle School in Fresno is preparing to the head to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego to perform during the half time show. The squad is also getting ready to compete in a huge competition in Anaheim. They won first place in the USA Junior Nationals Cheer Competition for their division last year. Two people have been arrested for yesterday's shooting in Fresno that left a delivery man dead. It happened at Palm & Belmont in Central Fresno at roughly 6 a.m. Monday morning. Police say the driver of a Coors truck was shot three times and left for dead. The suspects left the scene in a truck which was later ditched. Surveillance cameras did catch the shooting. For the second time this year, a Valley beef company has issued a recall. Beef Packer Incorporated, out of Fresno, is recalling 22,000 more pounds of ground beef products because the meat is contaminated with a drug resistant strain of Salmonella. The 19th Annual Coats for Kids Coat-a-thon kicked off with great success and high hopes. Two large check donations launched the coat drive closer to their goal of 19,000 jackets, but families are still in dire need of a little warmth this holiday season. The verdict is in for Cantrell Ellis. Jurors found Ellis guilty of second degree murder, burglary and assault. It took jurors one day to come up with the verdict. Just days before the Christmas Tree Lane lights up, thieves have targeted one of the displays. Jim Ried has been decorating for Christmas for more than 30 years. On Tuesday morning, a five foot display of the Sesame Street character “Elmo” was taken from his front yard. Ried says it’s the second time it’s happened. The Highway 180 expansion is now complete. The $50 million project extends Highway 180 east to Temperance Avenue in Clovis. There are also new interchanges at both Fowler and Temperance. KSEE 24’s Coats for Kids campaign just got a big boost from McDonald's. This afternoon, representatives from the fast food restaurant dropped off $600 worth of coats to out KSEE 24 studios. A woman accused of vandalizing her police officer husband's car has filed claims for damages against Fresno City and Fresno County, claiming that they singled her out because of an earlier claim of discrimination she made against the Fresno Police Department and because her husband is an officer.
