    LEWISTOWN - A Lewistown man led police on a 15-mile pursuit on Friday morning, Granville Township Police report. Police said they attempted to stop Herbert R. Cavanaugh Jr., 20, of Old State Road, Lewistown, but Cavanaugh failed to yield to police, leading officers through Granville Township, Lewistown Borough and Derry Township. Full Story »

  • Shop displays different variety of holiday tree

    REEDSVILLE - Not your typical Christmas tree, the Dairyland Gift Shop's "Giving Tree" is helping area residents give back to the community. Daphne Marthouse, one of Dairyland's co-op artists, said she and the eight other artists that contribute their work to the shop, are donating handmade ornaments to decorate the store's tree.     From staff reports MOUNT UNION - Federal, state and local officials have arrested 11 people on drug charges at a central Pennsylvania housing project that grew out of the investigation of a double murder in January.     LEWISTOWN - More detailed were released about an early morning accident on Thursday that claimed the life of a Lewistown man. Christopher S. Burke, 38, of 78 Logan St., was killed when the vehicle he was driving overturned at about 1:50 a.m. on Thursday on U.S. 522 South, ejecting him and a passenger, Rachel Stroup, 21, of Burnham, from the vehicle, Granville Township Police repor.   • Charter school transportation brings extra costs to district

    LEWISTOWN - Mifflin County School District faced an extra surprise cost this year - transportation for nine students to a new charter school satellite site in Juniata County. The Tuscarora Blended Learning Charter School opened a satellite site in Juniata County at the beginning of the school year, transportation director Nancy Craig told the school board during a workshop meeting Thursday.     LEWISTOWN - An early morning accident claimed the life of a Lewistown man today, according to the Mifflin County Coroner's office. A release issued by the coroner's office states that the Granville Township police are investigating an accident which occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 5 morning along U.S. 522.     MIFFLINTOWN - It appears that Alicia Anstine Seigler has won the Juniata County Register and Recorder position in a landslide victory over Edna M.   • Voters pick Peachey by a wide margin

    LEWISTOWN - An unofficial tally of votes cast on Tuesday name Republican Janice Peachey as the winner of the race for the Mifflin County Treasurer's office. Peachey took 4,994 votes while Democrat Joan North secured 2,560 of the votes cast countywide for treasurer.   • Rossman's blaze contained

    ALFARATA - Area firefighters were able to quickly contain a fire Monday afternoon at Rossman's Salvage Yard in Decatur Township. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, but originated in a tin pile located at the same site as a previous fire in 2008, East Derry Fire Company Capt. Brian Williams said. Full Story »
