  • You in You Tube could be a Riverside criminal

    Taking a cue from larger departments across the nation, Riverside police has become the first in the region to launch a YouTube channel soliciting tips in unsolved crimes.   • Temecula-area water district rejects moratorium on new water meters

    The board governing a Temecula-area water district Monday night rejected a proposed moratorium on new water meters and service guarantees for new development. The 5-2 vote by the Rancho California Water District board followed a three-hour public hearing in which dozens of developers, public officials and others spoke against the temporary moratorium proposed by one board member.     LOMA LIndaRed-light camera debate to resume The Loma Linda City Council tonight will resume discussion of a proposal to end the use of red-light cameras at four intersections. City Councilman Rhodes "Dusty" Rigsby has proposed ending the contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, and instead having yellow lights operate a second longer to cut the chance of accidents.   • Perris council to resolve rent control quandary

    The Perris City Council tonight plans to resolve a two-year-long quandary over whether to enact rent control. Over the past two years, the council has responded to outcry from the residents of Lake Perris Village and Park Place mobile home parksby placing a temporary freeze on any rent increases.   • Yucaipa-Calimesa considering closing ninth-grade campus

    The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District is considering closing its ninth-grade campus in June for budgetary reasons. The school board will discuss this recommendation from Superintendent Sherry Kendrick when it meets at 6:30 p.m. today, according to the agenda. The meeting is at the district offices in Yucaipa, 12797 Third St. The board will not take any action tonight. Full Story »

  • 2006 Moreno Valley graduation party shootout murder trial begins

    Prosecutors say 15-year old Brooke McKinney was an innocent victim caught in the crossfire of a rival gang war at a 2006 graduation party in Moreno Valley. But during a trial Monday for two men, one defense attorney said that the gunfire was not a result of gang violence -- and that exactly who fired the fatal shot is still unclear. Full Story »

  • Murrieta massage parlor appeals license suspension

    Murrieta's council is set tonight to consider whether to grant a massage parlor owners' request to reverse the suspension of a massage parlor's business licenses and revocation of permits of the parlor's manager.   • Flu vaccine shipments delayed

    The Riverside County Department of Public Health has postponed several seasonal flu clinics because of vaccine shipment delays. County Public Health Department officials are working with state and federal health officials to get more swine flu and seasonal flu vaccines. Seasonal flu vaccines are expected later this month.   • Moreno Valley sisters urge fellow college students to donate organs

    Zulma and Indra Michaca, college students in Moreno Valley, hand out stickers that say: "Don't take your organs to heaven -- heaven knows we need them here!"   • Homeless count results released in San Bernardino County

    Feeling the effects of budget cuts of 20 percent or more, Inland-area adult schools now have waiting lists for fewer seats in classes and new fees for some classes. At the same time, more students are going back to school to get their high school diplomas or General Educational Development certificates, many saying they are doing so to help their search for jobs.   • Riverside County finance director to resign

    Riverside County's chief financial officer will resign at the end of the year, county officials said Monday. Paul McDonnell took over the post in November 2008 after serving for more than 10 years as the county's elected treasurer-tax collector. His last day on the county payroll will be Dec. 30.   • Woman suspected in at least two bank robberies

  • Benoit delays Senate resignation in move to save special-election costs

    John J. Benoit remains a state senator -- for now, at least. The newly appointed Riverside County supervisor had been set to resign his Senate post Sunday and take the oath of office Monday to begin his county duties. Instead, he pushed the decision back to the end of the month. Full Story »

  • Cars bought elsewhere means less sales tax here

    It's not just dealers who lose when Riverside County residents cross the county line in search of a new car. Cities depend on auto sales to fuel sales tax streams that pay for police, firefighters and other public services.   • San Bernardino cartoon artist received early guidance from Charles Schulz

    Cartoonist Charles Schulz launched the careers of Snoopy, Linus and Charlie Brown -- and gave a boost to cartoon artist Darlene Douthit of San Bernardino as well. As a teenager in the early 1960s, Douthit was a budding cartoon artist living in Sebastopol in northern California. She had been told that a professional cartoonist lived nearby, she said.
