    At least eight people have been shot at the Gateway Center office building on Legion Place in downtown Orlando Streets are closed in a four block area near the intersection of Ivanhoe and Interstate 4.   • Ida Loses Strength Over Land

    Ida is no longer a hurricane. The storm weakened as it moved across the mountains of Nicaragua and is now classified as a tropical depression. Thursday, Ida gained steam in the Southwest Caribbean and briefly became a category one hurricane. Full Story »

  • Ida Becomes a Hurricane in the Caribbean

    Hurricane Ida slammed into the coast of Nicaragua this morning forcing more than 2 thousand people to evacuate. The storm gained strength quickly yesterday in the southwest Caribbean becoming a Category One hurricane this morning. Ida had winds of about 75 miles per hour as it made landfall. Full Story »

  • PSC Cuts Electric Rates

    The Florida Public Service Commission cut rates Tuesday for three power companies due to declining fuel prices and other factors. Florida Power & Light's monthly rate will drop by about $15 dollars for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month. Full Story »

  • Dockery to Run for Governor

    There will be another name on the ballot in next November's election. Florida State Sen. Paula Dockery of Lakeland says she will run for governor, challenging Attorney General Bill McCollum for the Republican nomination. Dockery says she plans to file paperwork today to enter the race.
