    A 70-year-old Utah woman has died after she was caught in a rip tide at Anini Beach on the island of Kauai. Kauai County Fire Department authorities said in a statement Thursday the unidentified woman from Manti, Utah, was snorkeling with her husband about 15 feet from the shore. Full Story »

  • Utah Officials Report 2 More H1N1-Related Deaths

    Utah health officials are reporting two more swine-flu related deaths. The Utah Department of Health said Wednesday that a man and a woman between the ages of 25 and 49 are the latest to die with a swine-flu related illness.   • DOE: Nevada Not an Option for SC Depleted Uranium

    Nevada has been ruled out as an alternative disposal site for low-level radioactive waste from South Carolina currently scheduled to come to Utah, a Department of Energy spokeswoman said Wednesday. DOE spokeswoman Lauren Milone said nearly 15,000 drums of the material will either be disposed of in Utah or remain in South Carolina, and a final decision could come as early as next week.   • Man Sentenced to Prison for Killing Girlfriend

    A man convicted of shooting his girlfriend to death was sentenced today to 15-years-to-life in prison. 21-year-old Parley Jeffs Dutson, a former FLDS member who left the church when he was 16, apologized to the family of Kara Hopkins in court saying, "words seem insignificant when I try to express the way I feel.   • Urine Samples Swiped From Logan Health Department

    Someone broke into public health offices in Logan and made away with 17 urine samples. The break-in happened early Monday morning at the Bear River Health Department. Spokeswoman Jill Parker says the thieves broke a window and somehow got into a padlocked refrigerator to steal the samples, which were stored in small, lidded plastic cups. Full Story »
