    The Cowboy Cantina in East Texas had been open for business less than six months when, on New Year's Eve 2005, local sheriff's deputies and undercover agents from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission staked out the bar. The owner, Oscar Jimenez, ended up with cracked ribs after one of the agents kicked him while he lay on the ground, he said.

  • Police arrest man in fatal shooting Sat Jul 18 11:48pm EDT

    Police arrested 39-year-old Omar Fernandez Hernandez on Saturday on charges that he fatally shot another man early that morning in North Austin.

  • Power goes out for 17,000 Sat Jul 18 11:46pm EDT

    About 17,000 homes temporarily lost power early Saturday evening in Northwest Austin because a piece of equipment, known as a lightning arrester, caught fire at a substation. Utility officials say power went out at a little after 4 p.m. and was not entirely restored until about 7 p.m. in an area south of Anderson Mill Road and between U.S. 183 and McNeil Road.
