A resolution to vacate part of Lookout Road south of State Highway 29/U.S. Highway 12 was open for public hearing and adoption by the Menomonie City Council on Monday night. No public comments were offered.

For the record, Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk doesn’t recommend what 18-year-old convenience store clerk Ashley Salmonson did Friday night. Still, her actions interfering with a would-be armed robber led to an arrest after an unsuccessful armed robbery.

Although the market price this year for steers and hogs was considerably higher than last year, the 74 participants in this year’s Dunn County 4-H & FFA Meat Animal Sale received a bonus of $57,610. The auction was held again at the Dunn County Fair.

Starting Monday and ending Friday, Aug. 29, street, sidewalk and curb repairs will close certain streets in downtown Menomonie. For the first week, construction will take place on the west half of Broadway and on Main Street between Second and Fourth Streets.

Their names are Mitch, Jeff, Marshall, Yankee, Mark, Diamond, Lee, Sterling, Kyle and Carter. Although all are decidedly male, like Cher and Madonna, they don’t sport last names. And like their fellow celebrities, they wear feathers (of a sort) and certainly know how to step lively.

Late Sunday afternoon, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a woman who said she was forced by multiple individuals into a residence in the township of Sand Creek and sexually assaulted. She was taken to Red Cedar Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

BOYCEVILLE — Members of the Village Board were given an assignment Monday evening by Gilbert Krueger, village president. The village will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2010, and Krueger told trustees “to remember anything unique that we can use when we observe our birthday.

District director of teaching and learning Chris Stratton is optimistic about the Menomonie School District’s new 4-year-old kindergarten program.

When asked what was the the most unique feature of this year’s Dunn County Fair, fair board president Debra Gotlibson didn’t hesitate to report, “Well, we caught a counterfeiter!”
