    New Location-Based Mobile Web App Gets Communities Buzzing

    Ever wonder what people are talking about within 5 miles of your home? Jabsy.com is a new location-based mobile web app that will show you what’s up! Totally free, and no registration required, simply log on, and Jabsy automatically knows where people are and shows them every message entered in the last day that was posted by someone within 5 miles of their home. 100% location based, Jabsy will also tell them how old the message is, and the exact distance it is from their home.

    Jabsy inventors Scott Landau and Daniel Green graduated from Drexel University in 2010. Within a few months after landing a job as a video consultant in New Jersey, Green came up with the initial idea, and reached out to his friend Landau whose degree is in programming. The pair began brainstorming how Jabsy could technically work, using GPS technology from mobile phones, new features available in HTML 5, and other cutting-edge location-based technologies. Within a few months, their side project had become a major project, and they brought in web entrepreneur Jim Vines to help with financing and the business side of things.

    "Jabsy fills a major void in the social networking landscape," Landau says. "You take the anonymity of Craigslist, and add that to the immediacy of Twitter, and you start to get an idea of what Jabsy can do. The technical challenge was exciting, and we’re constantly working to make Jabsy a robust and safe environment for everyone to share what’s going on around them."

    Green agrees. "It’s amazing to have an idea like this and see it come to life within a few months," he says. "Scott and I worked closely to make Jabsy intuitive and fun to use. We didn’t want people to have to register or give any personal information, and we didn’t want them to have to read instructions or spend time trying to figure it out. You can just log on, and use Jabsy right away."

    Going forward, the founders see Jabsy as the ultimate social tool to help people worldwide with everything from the mundane, such as finding a parking spot, to the sublime, such as finding a date. Because Jabsy’s extraordinary strength is location-based social messaging, this summer Jabsy will add a special unique community experience to outdoor summer music festivals, sports events, political events, resorts, popular beaches, weddings, parties and more. Campus living also lends itself especially well to Jabsy’s strengths, and awareness is growing in the college community.

    "Jabsy is in its early stages," says Vines, "but we’re already seeing strong interaction from the communities who are using it. Unlike other social networks, you aren’t restricted to only communicating with people you already know. With Jabsy you enter the public square of free speech, and there’s something truly refreshing, exciting, and profoundly useful about that."
