“Officers are in attendance at a building site on Terminus Place, SW1 following the discovery of what is believed to be World War 2 ordnance,” said the Metropolitan Police.

The incident happened at rush hour but police said the station had been reopened by around 10 am, without giving further details.

It is thought the bomb may have been discovered at a nearby building site.

Thousands of bombs were dropped on London during World War Two.

During the Blitz alone, between September 1940 and May 1941, tens of thousands of bombs rained down on the English capital.
