How low can you go? Whitney Houston’s lifeless body covers National Enquirer

Running an image of Whitney Houston’s lifeless body on the cover is pretty par for the course for The National Enquirer, but it’s still a bit much.

On this week’s cover of the infamous tabloid, a photo of the singer laying in her casket accompanies the headline, “THE LAST PHOTO.”  It’s not exactly how Houston’s family wanted the public to remember the singer, since they took precautions to ensure that the viewing of her body was a private affair.

This isn’t exactly a new low for the tabloid. The Enquirer ran a similar photo and headline when Elvis Presley died of a drug overdose in 1977:

    National Enquirer

It almost makes you question how the tabloid was in the running for a Pulitzer Prize just two years ago. Almost.

And now yahoo just put a picture of Elvis in a casket on this page.
      • candylyn&e 3 mths ago
Yeah, like he's the only one who died from drugs. Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse. Whitney just never learned - that's what killed her - her life style that she didn't want to change.

        America --- And...?
      • America 3 mths ago
@Shlumgullya, seriously? You don't know the end of that sentence? Ok, I will spell it out for you. The national Enquirer put in their headline (title) "HOW LOW CAN YOU GO" and then the put "Whitney Houstons lifeless body covers National Enquirer." See they were putting the National Enquirer down for the picture of Whitney Houston in a coffin and used a picture of Elvis in his coffin to prove a poinnt. Do you get the irony now? Stay in school!

Just for the record, Yahoo, it's lying, not laying, in her coffin. She's not a hen.

        That's funny.

My first thought, unless you're John Bunyan: "And dashest him again to earth: there let him lay."

It's no wonder people have a hard time learning the English language. However, one would think that a professional journalist would know it's intricacies. Somebody should tell Clapton that it's "Lie Down Sally" and Dylan that it's "Lie Lady Lie". Both songs objectify women.

... JUST ABOUT... as low as you just did for putting Elvis' photo on here...

They wouldn't print it if stupid people wouldn't buy it! They know it will sell.

Don't like it? Don't buy an Enquirer. I never have. I also don't watch any TV show with a "Real housewife" dancing toddler, pagent toddler or a Kardashian starring in it.

What a load of phoney "outrage" manure. The hypocrite writer condemns the Inquirer for a death photo of Houston, then runs a death photo of Presley. I don't give a d***n about either one of them. But don't preach to us when your hands are just as dirty. Journalist are parasites!

Wait.... You Put A Picture Of A Dead Elvis To Make The Point That It Is Wrong To Put In A Picture Of A Dead Celeb??? I Want A Job At This Paper... No Brains Required, No Editor In Charge!

After all the trouble her family went to to have a "private" viewing, I wonder which family member sold her out? Maybe it was the owner or some employee of the funeral home?
    • MARY  •  3 mths ago
Just goes to show you what some people will do for money. Someone she trusted betrayed her and took a photo they knew they would sell to the tabloids. Wow, with friends like those, who needs enemies?

As tasteless as it is for The Enquirer to run the photo, what does it say about the classlessness of an invited guest to take the photo and sell it to them?
    • ifellwithicarus  •  3 mths ago
Taylor Bigler, Whitney Houston was not " laying in her casket." She was " lying in her casket." For Pete's sake, if you're going to be a writer who is taken seriously, know the difference.

hey this is the Natl Enquirer we're talking about ... who ever said they had any class?

The fact that enough people are stupid enough to read this garbage is appalling.
    • Sunny  •  3 mths ago
Wait a minute, the National Enquirer was nominated for a PULITZER PRIZE??? The National F***ing Enquirer?? There goes my respect for the Pulitzer Prize. What next, Yahoo! News being a "breakthrough" in news reporting and journalism? Give me a break.
    • OfficiousSeeingEyeByatch  •  3 mths ago
Other countries show much, much more graphic photos in their papers and magazines. No matter how "wrong" it was to print the Houston death photo was I bet you clicked to see it, right? It's morbid curiousity, a human response. And part two, someone "close" to Whitney sold that photo, just like someone "close" to Whitney is selling their "I smoked crack with Whitney Houston" story. Bottom line: be grateful you have real friends and aren't famous.
    • JD  •  3 mths ago
I think that the person or people who sold the pic to the National Enquirer is worse #$%$ than all of them. National Enquirer just does what it does, it's a nasty rag. But for someone to take advantage of that and sell a pic like that to them, THAT is one low life person. Someone needs to find out who did it.
    • paul  •  Chatsworth, California  •  3 mths ago
They put Gadhaffi and Saddam's bodies on plenty of magazines. Internet search queries for Osama's body went through the roof, as did "Steve Irwin death video". It happens.

Tabloids - Trash for your mind. Not that I condone what these sleazemongers do but, the reality here is that as long as there is a market for this garbage there is no reason for them to show any respect or decency. It's always about the all mighty dollar. The general public needs to wise up and stop paying them to produce this #$%$ All business dies without the consumer. If you consume this #$%$ you are just as bad as those who produce it and put it out there. If you spend wisely there will be no reason to complain.

The media is jumping on the Enquirer for this but flying helicopters over the funeral procession is OK right? They are all vultures
