Lowe's pulls ads from TV show about US Muslims

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A decision by retail giant Lowe's Home Improvement to pull ads from a reality show about American Muslims following protests from an evangelical Christian group has sparked criticism and calls for a boycott against the chain.

The retailer stopped advertising on TLC's "All-American Muslim" after a conservative group known as the Florida Family Association complained, saying the program was "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."

The show premiered last month and chronicles the lives of five families from Dearborn, Mich., a Detroit suburb with a large Muslim and Arab-American population.

A state senator from Southern California said he was considering calling for a boycott.

Calling the Lowe's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press on Sunday that he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The senator sent a letter outlining his complaints to Lowe's Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Niblock.

"The show is about what it's like to be a Muslim in America, and it touches on the discrimination they sometimes face. And that kind of discrimination is exactly what's happening here with Lowe's," Lieu said.

The Florida group sent three emails to its members, asking them to petition Lowe's to pull its advertising. Its website was updated to say that "supporters' emails to advertisers make a difference."

Suehaila Amen, whose family is featured on "All-American Muslim," said she was disappointed by the Lowe's decision.

"I'm saddened that any place of business would succumb to bigots and people trying to perpetuate their negative views on an entire community," Amen, 32, told The Detroit News on Sunday.

Lowe's issued a statement Sunday apologizing for having "managed to make some people very unhappy."

"Individuals and groups have strong political and societal views on this topic, and this program became a lightning rod for many of those views," the statement said. "As a result we did pull our advertising on this program. We believe it is best to respectfully defer to communities, individuals and groups to discuss and consider such issues of importance."

The North Carolina-based company did not say whether it would reinstate advertising on the show.

The apology doesn't go far enough, Lieu said. The senator vowed to look into whether Lowe's violated any California laws and said he would also consider drafting a senate resolution condemning the company's actions.

"We want to raise awareness so that consumers will know during this holiday shopping season that Lowe's is engaging in religious discrimination," Lieu said.

Besides an apology and reinstatement of the ads, Lieu said he hoped Lowe's would make an outreach to the community about bias and bigotry.

Lieu's office said a decision was expected Wednesday or Thursday on whether to proceed with the boycott.

Lowe's issued another statement later Sunday, saying company officials are seeking to talk to Lieu about his concerns and clarify the company's position.

"We are aware of the senator's comments and have reached out to his office to arrange an opportunity for us to speak with him directly to hear his thoughts," the statement read.

Dawud Walid, Michigan director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said his group felt "extreme disappointment" at Lowe's "capitulation to bigotry."

Walid said he has heard expressions of anger and calls for a boycott by Muslims but said a key to resolving the Lowe's advertising controversy will be how non-Muslim religious leaders and others react to Lowe's decision.

"I will be picking up the phone tomorrow to some of our friends and allies to explain the situation to them," Walid said Sunday.

HOW TO STOP TERRORISM..Capture 10 of these #$%$s and force them to dig their own graves and then tie them to individual post execution style. Bring in a couple of nice fat pigs and slaughter them in front of these #$%$s and rup the bullets in the blood and fat. Now the terrorists are terrified; they see that they would be contaminated with hog's blood. This would mean that they cannot enter Heaven, even if they died as terrorist martyrs. Shoot them dead but one and dumped their bodies into the grave, and the hog guts dumped atop the bodies. The lone survivor is allowed to escape back to the terrorist's camp and tell his #$%$ brethren what happened to the others. And PRESTO!, no more terrorism anywhere in the world for the next 50 years! Putting a gun into the face of Islamic terrorists won't make them flinch. We must show them that they won't get to muslim heaven (which they believe has an endless supply of virgins, sex, food and wine) but instead will die with the hated pigs of the devil. One important thing to remember is that muslims detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. They simply refuse to eat it, while others won't even touch pigs at all, its meat, its blood to be instantly barred from paradise and doom to hell. One more item…HOW TO STOP HIKACKING OF PASSENGER PLANES.. Have the stewardess work in the nude and the #$%$s will not board the plane! They cannot look upon the nakedness of female bodies! But for gentlemen such as me, it would be an enjoyable trip!

I will not watch this show!! Saw then interviewed on "Anderson" and it was less about religon (for those curious) and more about another "Reality Show". If I want a reality show I'll invite my family over. I would like to know honestly, how a muslim who practices the Quaran, which has the Sharia Law in it, and that law is the morale code and religious law of Islam. Muslims believe Sharia is Gods law so how does that work when one lives in America that has separated Church from State?

Hey, Florida Family Association, are you prepared to present a boycott against the businesses owned or patronized by white, Christian men? Because here are some of the terrorist activities that they have committed, in just 2011:
      * An Idaho white supremacist planted a shrapnel bomb along a Spokane, WA parade route for the 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King holiday. Had crews not identified and removed the bomb, it was set to go off in the most crowded area at the main time of the event.
      * A southern California white male drove all the way to suburban Detroit where he was arrested while staring at a mosque with a trunk full of fireworks. Thing is, there was a funeral going on the mosque, and it was apparently very crowded. So what happens if you go into a crowded funeral proceeding in an enclosed area, and let off a bunch of fireworks? Pandemonium.
      * And, of course, the homicidal maniac white male farmer in Scandavia who murdered over 50 children.......because he was the alleged victim of "cultural marxism."

Hey, if you are about to talk about all the bad things that "Islamic fundamentalists" do, but you are on your way to a megachurch this week, then you better well be thinking of what a lot of your fellow white Christians have done....just this year. Not to mention over the past 2000 years.

The ideology of authoritarianism (social conservatism) from government is rampant within asian mentality and that of fictional ishmaelism. Civics in the US has been screwed up by David Nolan and his Nolan Chart - dig him up, turn him over, and bury him face down!

Still the greatest country in the world! Why? because you vote with your dollars, your hate speech, and your ideas, not with a bomb. I can see both sides and we debate about it here freely. Lowes is betting that more religious bigots shop at their stores than does the opposing view. It sucks but it's the constitutional way baby. It's lowes legal right.

Lowe's Home Improvement, which has found itself at the center of controversy for pulling its advertising from "All-American Muslim," is right. It is behaving as Americans ought to, engaged in a righteous struggle with the outcries of so-called all-American Muslims unleashing their only sanctioned dog—CAIR. The Council on American-Islamic Relations swiftly acted as the Muslim ACLU, barking out attacks of “racism” and “bigotry,” with threats from Rep. Chris Murphy (D.-Conn.) indicating he and other House members would be sending a letter to Lowe’s on the issue.

Democratic Senators Barbra Boxer (Calif.), Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Dick Durbin (Ill.), hardly right-wing hawks, all have said that CAIR is closely connected to terrorism.

I am glad we are talking about this. This show is #$%$ It doesn't address the "WHY?" the religion of ISLAM is the cause of 99.9% of all terrorism committed in the name of a religion. With that, the most oft-repeated myth in this mythical war against terrorism is the notion that "radical" Islam has corrupted an extreme interpretation of an otherwise good and "peaceful religion". Yet, all Islamic terrorists openly admit with their word, and confirm by their deeds, that they are fundamentalists, and make a better argument c/o their Koran they are the BEST MUSLIMS!! This is "true" ISLAM folks!!
