    Lumetrics® to Showcase Cutting-Edge RoboScan™ at Upcoming Medical Design & Manufacturing West 2012 Trade Show

    Lumetrics®, a leading manufacturer of world-class precision thickness measurement technology, will showcase a new robotic measurement system: the RoboScan™ at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West trade show at the Anaheim Convention Center, in California on February 14th-16th 2012.

    Lumetrics® will demonstrate the RoboScan™, which will enable on-line mechanical characterization of IV bags, bag seals, medical packaging, and other applications. The RoboScan™ system measures components that previously were extremely difficult and time consuming to measure. Traditional measurement techniques include micrometers, pin gauges, and visually observing the seals. With the RoboScan™ manufacturers will make decisions based on explicit, repeatable data.

    The first implementation for this flexible tool is in the measurement of blood bags. The RoboScan™ system can be programmed to measure all seams especially where tubes come into the bags. Proper tube concentricity ensures well sealed bags and demonstrates proper setup of a production line. RoboScan™ has the ability to measure multi-layer thickness without compromising the sterility of the product. With the data derived from the RoboScan™, you can achieve higher quality products, reduce costs and inspection time, and ultimately reduce safety risks and improve customer satisfaction.

    Lumetrics developed this solution by working closely with a major robotics integrator, Automated Cells & Equipment (ACE). ACE had a stand-alone system which was ideally suited to integration with Lumetrics® OptiGauge™ measurement system. “The RoboScan™ combines the robotics expertise of ACE with the measurement accuracy and flexibility of the OptiGauge™,” said Lumetrics® CEO John Hart. “It was the perfect fit to bring cost saving inspection capabilities to our customers.”

    During MD&M, Lumetrics® will also be hi-lighting the capabilities of another measurement system, the LumetriScan™, a fully automated, non-contact thickness measurement gauge for long-length medical tubing and balloons up to 36 inches in length.
