MacBook Pros About to Get Major Speed Boost (Report)

Apple's MacBook Air line got a speedy refresh this past spring, and it looks like the Pros are up next. Based on signage from a Chinese Apple store, the MacBook Pro lineup will soon consist of three new Retina models that have faster processors and a minimum of 16GB of RAM.

Discovered in Apple's Chongqing, China location and posted to Chinese Apple resource Feng.com, the image provides detailed specs for all three models. If the sign is to be believed, the starting configuration will sport a 2.2-GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and Intel Iris Pro graphics.

The middle config has a faster 2.5-GHz Core i7 CPU, 512GB SSD and discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics, while the beefiest model has a 2.6-GHz Core i7 CPU and a 1TB SSD.

All three models listed in the sign are of the 15.4-inch variety, and all sport 2880 x 1800-pixel Retina displays. Apple's current highest-end 15-inch Retina Pro offers a 2.3-GHz Core i7 CPU and 16GB of RAM, which is the same memory and nearly the same processing speed as the starting model in this purported new lineup.

The sign does not list a launch date for the new MacBook Pros, but a previous AppleInsider report suggests that the laptop line could be coming in Q3 2014. This rumored refresh seems likely given the fact that Apple recently revamped its Air lineup, so you might want to hold out a few months if you're in the market for a new MacBook Pro.
