    Magnitude 6.3 earthquake shakes Peru

LIMA, Peru (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 has struck on the coast of central Peru.

The quake was recorded at 11 minutes after midnight (local and EST; 0511 GMT), nine miles (15 kilometers) from the city of Ica, which was badly damaged by a major 8.0 earthquake in August 2007 and also suffered damage in a quake last October.

Monday's quake was at a depth of 24.4 miles (39.2 kilometers). USGS maps showed the epicenter exactly on the Pacific Ocean coastline.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. No tsunami warning was issued.

Peru sits on a SUBDUCTION ZONE, zone. Thats like being an alcoholic and living above a Bar. If they don't like it there, they should grow their Coca Leaves somewhere else.

Just to put things in perspective, I did a little search on the USGS website of how many earthquakes with a magnitude between 5.0 and 8.0 occurred from January 1st through 30th over the past decade.
      2012 153 earthquakes
      2011 192 earthquakes
      2010 197 earthquakes
      2009 197 earthquakes
      2008 118 earthquakes
      2007 196 earthquakes
      2006 83 earthquakes
      2005 322 earthquakes
      2004 140 earthquakes
      2003 100 earthquakes
      2002 124 earthquakes

This is nothing out of the ordinary and it is not the end of the world. For some reason there is more media coverage this year possibly due to the 2012 End of the World scare.
