Maine's Governor Accuses Opponent of Giving 'It to the People Without Providing Vaseline'
National politicians aren't the only ones capable of throwing around bizarre, off-putting insults. On Thursday, Maine's Republican governor, Paul LePage, told journalists that state Sen. Troy Jackson, a Democrat, "claims to be for the people, but he's the first one to give it to the people without providing Vaseline."
That comment, which was made in the midst of a growing fight over the state's budget, wasn't all LePage had for Jackson. "He is bad," LePage said. "He has no brains, and he has a black heart." The loose insults may not come as such a huge shock from someone who recently said that "the minute we start stifling our speech, we might as well go home, roll up our sleeves and get our guns out."
Jackson, for his part, was pretty confused by LePage:
"I don't know if it's where I'm from or the way I speak or something, but it comes up that maybe I'm not the smartest guy," said Jackson. "I don't know if I am or not. Maybe I am the country bumpkin, but that doesn't bother me."
So while we all sit around today and condemn the broken Congress that can't even pass a farm bill, it may be good to just take a quick second and be thankful that at least Steny Hoyer and Eric Cantor aren't bringing sexual insults into the floor fight.
