    Making a Splash: Canadian divers Despatie and Ross earn two more Olympic spots

    LONDON - Alexandre Despatie and Reuben Ross have locked up two more spots for Canadian divers at the London Olympics.

    Despatie was eighth and Ross finished 11th today in the preliminary round of the men's individual three-metre event at a diving World Cup.

    By finishing in the top 18 at London's new Aquatics Center, both divers clinched Olympic spots and advanced to the semifinals.

    Despatie, from Laval, Que., and Ross, from Regina, earned another spot for London a day earlier with a fifth-place finish in the three-metre synchronized event.

    In diving, athletes secure places for their country in each event with the final list of Olympic competitors to be determined at national trials.

    But barring injuries, the same group will likely be diving at the Games.
