Mali: 5 bodies discovered near military barracks

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — Mali's top prosecutor says five bodies were discovered in two graves near a military barracks outside the capital.

Daniel Tessougue said the bodies were found Sunday. He said the victims were wearing military clothing but their identities had not been confirmed.

The Kati military barracks served as the fief of Gen. Amadou Haya Sanogo after he came to power in a March 2012 military coup.

In December a mass grave containing 21 skulls was discovered at a location near the Kati barracks that matched where witnesses said around 20 elite Red Beret paratroopers were shot and killed by troops loyal to Sanogo in May 2012. The Red Berets had attempted a counter-coup in April 2012.

Sanogo was arrested in November and charged with complicity in kidnapping his fellow soldiers.
