Man arrested in double slaying, dismemberment case

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Police say a 30-year-old man accused of killing his mother and sister in their North Las Vegas home started dismembering one of the bodies and tried to clean up the bloody scene.

Police Sgt. Chrissie Coon said Tuesday that detectives think Darius Davon Sorrells lived for several days at the house with the two corpses before he was arrested by chance after a weekend traffic chase.

Sorrells wasn't linked to the slayings until Monday, when the bodies of his 53-year-old mother and 33-year-old sister were found at the house.

They had been reported missing last week.

Sorrells is now jailed pending a court appearance on two murder charges.

North Las Vegas police collected various tools in the house, but Coon says they aren't sure yet what the murder weapon was.
