Wesley Chapel man arrested after shooting longtime partner, hiding in pantry, sheriff says

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) — Pasco County deputies arrested a man who barricaded himself in a Wesley Chapel home after he shot his longtime partner, according to Pasco County deputies.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of Marquette Avenue.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said the man shot the woman following an argument that led to their bedroom.

Nocco said the shooting happened while their adult son and the woman’s adult daughter were in the home.

“At some point, the adult daughter hears gunshots,” the sheriff said. “The mother comes out of the room. She’s bleeding. She’s screaming call police. Get out of the house.”

Deputies were able to get the woman to medical care, and according to the sheriff’s office, she was in critical but stable condition Saturday morning.

“So please pray for [the family] right now, as they’re struggling with their mother fighting for her life,” Nocco said.

After the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself for several hours, in which he refused to come out out of the home.

“He was inside a food pantry,” Nocco said. “He still would not listen to or obey orders. We had one of our SWAT K9 units in there. The SWAT K9 took lead and was able to pull him out of there and get him into custody.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the shooter was taken to a hospital to be treated for self-inflicted gunshot injuries.

The video below, shared by Eric Brandzel, catches a nearby bystander saying, “I’m not going to forgive him.”

“I couldn’t believe it,” Brandzel told WFLA. “It was kinda disturbing, and sad.”

At this time, the shooting suspect and victim have not been identified. Nocco said they were still working to contact their family members.

However, the alleged shooter faces a charge of attempted homicide.
