Man’s body found in Virginia Beach lake after days of searching

After days of searching, Virginia Beach police say a drowning victim’s body was found Monday after it surfaced in Lake Edward.

He was identified as Marvin Enrique Fuenez Garay, 28.

Officers responded to 700 block of Lake Edward Drive just before 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a man falling into a body of water. At the scene, they learned Garay went into the lake around 10:45 a.m.

Police, Fire, and EMS searched along the shoreline and in the water using side scan sonar, according to a press release from the department. Police say inclement weather suspended the search until the next day.

Sunday, first responders and members of VBPD’s Special Operations Bureau combed the shoreline once again. Officials used rescue boats, divers and drones in order to locate Garay with no success.

On Monday evening, officials say Garay’s body surfaced and was recovered.

There is no suspicion of foul play, police said. This incident is still under investigation.
