Man charged with murder in 2017 east Bakersfield deadly shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man has been charged murder in the 2017 killing of Maurice Wright in east Bakersfield.

Police say Jeremiah Dawson, 28, was in custody for an unrelated incident when he was questioned about the Oct. 7, 2017 shooting on South King Street that left Wright dead and another woman wounded.

According to police, Dawson admitted to being one of the three suspected shooters when he was shown surveillance video of the incident.

Dawson was charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and participating in a criminal street gang Friday, according to police and court records.

Two other suspects are being investigated, police said in a statement.
