Man elated to mark Liberation Day after illness
A Guernsey resident said he was "elated" to be able to decorate his property for Liberation Day following a cancer diagnosis.
Geoff Le Gallez, who has now been given the all clear, was diagnosed with colon cancer in February.
The St Peter Port resident feared the diagnosis would stop him from being able to take part in this year's celebrations.
"As long as I'm on my feet, I'll keep doing it", he said.
'Educate the youngsters'
Mr Le Gallez said decorating his garden for the event, which he has done for many years, was a "pure passion".
He said residents looked forward to his annual display, and his daughter would have decorated it herself if he had been unable to.
"You never know what is around the corner," he said.
"You hear these things happening to other people, but you think it's never going to happen to you.
"But it happened to me".
Mr Le Gallez, who was born after the war, said part of the reason for the decorations was to "educate the youngsters".
"We mustn't forget it," he said.
