Man killed in RV fire in La Vergne

LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 47-year-old man has died after a recreational vehicle (RV) caught fire early Wednesday morning in La Vergne.

According to the La Vergne Fire Rescue Department, crews arrived at the scene of the fire on Jane Anne Street just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Upon arrival, personnel located the RV, which was fully engulfed in flames. Officials reported that crews immediately began suppression efforts and the fire was extinguished by 4:21 a.m.

As firefighters entered the RV, they found a man who had died in the blaze, the department said.

According to officials, the RV was parked behind a home Jane Anne Street. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the deadly fire.

News 2 spoke with a neighbor who said she has lived across the street from the victim and his twin brother for nearly 50 years.

“If I needed to call, and ‘hey, I need you’, they would’ve been here. If I needed help, they were always there for me,” said Faye Brazelton. “It would be such a tragedy any time, but at Christmas, to me it just kind of compounds things.”

Jerry Engle, the victim’s twin brother, told News 2 that his brother managed to get out of the fire safely, but went back to save his cat that was still inside.

“It’s a tragedy that I’ve lost him, that we’ve lost him, especially losing mom, dad, and now him,” said Engle.

Additional details about the blaze, including the identity of the 47-year-old who died, have not been released.
