Man Who Killed His Wife and Posted a Photo of Her Bloody Body on Facebook Convicted of Murder
Derek Medina, the Florida man who killed his wife and posted a photo of her bloody body on Facebook, has been convicted of second-degree murder.
A Miami jury rejected Medina’s claim that he shot his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, eight times in self-defense because he was a battered husband.

He told police he killed his wife in August 2013 because she threatened him with a knife and had physically abused him for years.
But prosecutors said Medina had promised to kill her if she walked out on him, and she was planning to do just that, they said.
“He planned to execute Jen and he executed his plan,” prosecutor Leah Klein said in closing arguments, the Associated Press reported.
Alfonso’s mother, Carolyn Knox, wept as the verdict was announced. Jurors had deliberated for six hours over two days, the wire service said.
Medina showed no emotion. He was led back to jail in handcuffs. His attorney said he will appeal the conviction.

Prosecutors said they will seek the maximum punishment of life imprisonment during a sentencing hearing scheduled for Jan. 11.
