Longtime resident Penny Tillinger said her husband heard the shots and then saw the two bodies lying on the ground.

“He heard the gunshots from our house. We live on the next street over, and he heard like, six-seven gunshots,” she said. “He came over to check on his sister because she lives across the street.”

Tillinger said they aren’t used to crimes like these happening around their neighborhood.

“It’s unsettling because this neighborhood is really quiet, you know? It’s generally safe,” she said. “It’s just disturbing to think that this could happen in broad daylight.”

Neighbors said the victims are young adults, a brother and sister who were renting the home with their mother. They said the family moved in within the past year.

Neighbors said after the man was shot in the driveway, his siter tried to chase the suspect. They said that’s when he shot her, too.

Longtime resident LaVerne Hargrove said she was shocked something like this happened in her neighborhood.

“It’s a shock. Nothing never like this ever happened,” Hargrove said.

Hargrove said the area is safe and family-friendly. She said her heart goes out to the mother of the victim’s.

“I feel sorry for the lady. It’s sad,” Hargrove said. “Lord help her. She lost two kids.”
