Mane Muse: Stefanie Scott

Stefanie Scott is no stranger to bold hair color. With ever changing roles (including 3 movies that release this year and 2 to follow next!), we’ve seen her blonde, brunette, red, and orange. And when a daring young starlet isn’t shy to the hair dye, we notice. With her roles in Jem and the Hollograms and Insidious, Stefanie shows just how versatile an actress she is. So with the help of celebrity hairstylist Jamal Hammadi, we turned Stefanie into four playful versions of herself, while she morphed into the characters behind each of her hairstyles.
For the first look, Jamal wanted to create “a modern, youthful, Cindy Crawford, as if Stefanie were a young supermodel from the late 80’s.”
To create the look, he used a 1-inch curling iron to curl the entire head, setting each curl into place with pin curl clips and Hamadi Shea Spray until cooled. After taking out the pins, the hair was brushed and lightly teased. “You really need the right cut and length for a style like this, and Stefanie definitely has it!” says Jamal.
The next look moved to another era of models, channeling Claudia Schiffer in the 90’s, “but we wanted to give it more of a modern, simple flair, without having the hair up too high on the head.”
This updo was Jamal’s favorite from the day, “because you really see the texture, her neck, her face shape, and her eyes,” he swoons, “It really enhances her natural beauty. When she turned her head, the profile looked right…It just made her look even more beautiful. For me, beauty is about celebrating women, so I like looks that bring out their best.”
“It’s so important to look at the face shape when recreating iconic looks so you can make them your own,” says Jamal. “If you are doing the look on yourself, look at it from all angles in the mirror so you can really make sure it flatters your face.” The placement can really bring out your best features when done right.
“The third look was very inspired by the classic beauty Brigitte Bardot, but we wanted to make it feel more like Stefanie. I reworked her previous texture from the other looks, using just a styling cream to smooth.”
The fourth and final look was all about the bang, though this faux piece was created differently. “I created the bang by using a hair weft and measuring it along Stephanie’s forehead,” Jamal explains, “but we wanted them really thick so I glued two pieces together to create a really heavy feel. Then I just glued the clips on. After attaching, I used her eye shape to determine how long or short to cut the bang. With bangs, always pay attention to who you’re working on and what will look best with their face shape. For this particular look we wanted a bang that fell right along her lash line.”
In the spirit of iconic supermodels, Jamal lets us in on his ultimate beauty icon. “Linda Evangelista is it for me,” he says. “She’s a trendsetter. She started all the crazy colors. No one was like that the way she was.”
Speaking of crazy colors, Stefanie admits that she’s always wanted to experiment more. “Lavender or something!” she says, “but I could never do it unless a role called for it.” And what’s equally surprising, her ultimate hair icon is “Audrey Tautou in Amelie.” Though she admits “I’m too scared to actually cut mine, but I love her hair in that movie!”
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Stefanie plays the next short-haired lilac beauty to hit the big screen!
