The late Manning Marable wins history Pulitzer; no fiction award for first time in 35 years
NEW YORK, N.Y. - The late Manning Marable won the Pulitzer Prize for history Monday, honoured for a work he did not live to see to publication.
For the first time in 35 years, no fiction prize was given.
The play "Water by the Spoonful," about a returning Iraq war veteran by Quiara Alegria Hudes, won the drama prize.
The Pulitzer for biography went to "George F. Kennan: An American Life" by John Lewis Gaddis, and "Life on Mars" by Tracy K. Smith won the poetry prize.
The general nonfiction prize was given to "The Swerve: How the World Became Modern" by Stephen Greenblatt, while the music prize went to "Silent Night: Opera in Two Acts" by Kevin Puts.
