Man's body found near Brownsville Sports Park

May 8—Employees at a car dealership discovered a body Saturday behind the lot, near the Brownsville Sports Park, police said.

A male in his late 50s was found dead on a dirt road near Brownsville Toyota, whose employees called in the report to police around 7:41 p.m., said Investigator Martin Sandoval, public information officer for the Brownsville Police Department.

"Right now, we do not suspect foul play," Sandoval said. "There's no signs of any foul play. They are here to pick him up. We're going to wait for the autopsy."

Shortly after 9 p.m., the police had yet to notify the man's family.

"He has been identified," Sandoval said.

Several units were parked around the location, which was marked off with yellow tape and behind both the car dealership and a building used by the city's parks department. At the nearby sports park, people continued to play basketball in groups under a canopy of park lights.

The man was wearing blue jeans and black shirt, Sandoval said.

"As soon as we notify the man's next of kin, we will release a statement," Sandoval said.
