Maoist rebels kill 13 paramilitary police, wound 15 in ambush in central India

NEW DELHI - A police official says suspected Maoist rebels have ambushed a patrol team in western India, killing at least 13 paramilitary policemen.

The official says the policemen were travelling through a densely forested area in Maharashtra state on Tuesday when the rebels set off a land mine, blowing up the vehicle.

The official said another 15 policemen were wounded in the powerful blast. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media.
