General Motors March sales rise 6 percent on pickup, crossover SUV demand

General Motors Co. said Tuesday that its March U.S. sales rose 6 percent, led by the Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Traverse crossover SUV.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Detroit automaker said it sold 245,950 cars and trucks last month, up from 231,052 a year earlier.

TOP SELLERS: Chevrolet Silverado sales were up 8 percent to 39,561. Traverse sales rose nearly 55 percent to 10,944.

HOT MODELS: Chevrolet Cruze compact car sales rose almost 8 percent to 23,260. The new Cadillac ATS, a BMW 3-Series competitor, saw sales of 3,587.
