Mark Harmon Says He's Ready To Tangle With Jamie Lee Curtis On 'NCIS'; Cast & Crew Talk Milestone 200th Episode

Jamie Lee Curtis is gearing up to shake things up both romantically and professionally for Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs on "NCIS" later this season.

"We haven't touched on his personal life in awhile and we're about to introduce a woman that's going to get people going," show boss Gary Glasberg told AccessHollywood.com on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association Winter Session 2012, when asked about future plans for the popular character. "Just look for Jamie Lee Curtis."

So far, the actress has signed on for two episodes, and it appears that there will be a some sort of spark between Curtis' unnamed character and Harmon's Gibbs.

"We're prepping that episode right now. She's coming into our world from a very unique government perspective and she will spar with him in ways that people aren't used to," Glasberg told Access.

The show boss noted it is a case that brings the two characters together, and unlike some of the other women that have come across Gibbs' path - like Lauren Holly's Jenny Shepard - the two won't have a history.

"It's gonna be fun," Glasberg smiled. "She's really excited about that."

When asked about Curtis coming to the "NCIS" fold as a romantic interest by Access , Harmon turned to his boss.

"A love interest? Is that what I am now with Curtis?" Harmon asked Glasberg.

"There's a spark," Glasberg chimed in.

Harmon, whose Gibbs' character has led the "NCIS" team for (most of) nine seasons on CBS, said he hasn't shot any scenes with Curtis yet, but he is looking forward to reuniting with his former "Freaky Friday" co-star.

"Jamie's great and I think we're all glad that she's coming to play with us in our little sandbox for a while and she's fortunate to have [Glasberg] creating the character she's playing," he said. "But I look forward to it, absolutely."

Before that happens, "NCIS" has another road to travel when the show celebrates its 200th episode.

Set to air on February 7 on CBS, the special episode will take a look at what could have happened if different decisions were made by the characters over the years.

Glasberg said Holly isn't coming back for the episode, but he smiled and said to watch when a reporter asked if Sasha Alexander (who played Kate) would return for the special.

He also said the 200th episode will feature many eye-catching moments.

"There's very much an 'It's A Wonderful Life' quality to this story," Glasberg said in response to another reporter's question. "People should watch this episode multiple times because there's so much crossing and appearances that happen, that I highly recommend the DVR to be turned on."

The show boss told Access that no one from "JAG," the show which spawned "NCIS," would appear.

"That, I can tell you, isn't happening, but a lot of people that go way back in the history of 'NCIS' [are in the episode]," Glasberg said. "I'm not going to give you names, but there are heroes as well as villains."

Nine seasons in, "NCIS" has battled to the top of the television ratings, and it show no signs of stopping - even threating to take out "Gunsmoke's" record for most years on the air for a dramatic television show (a record shared by "Law & Order").

"We're certainly going to give it a try," Glasberg said during the TCA panel when asked about taking over the record of 20 years.

"I like the idea of riding a horse if we're gonna do that," Harmon chimed in.

"We'll all ride that horse with you," Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) added.

I thought the episode with Jamie Lee was very effective. What I would really like to see happen is more of the female Colonel who has since retired to Hawaii. I really liked the two of them together. On the other hand, that female lawyer who calls Gibbs "MISTER Gibbs" is an irritant I can do without.

Why was Timothy not in the pictures of now and then. Isn't he a star of the show.

I think what's cool about Mark Harmon is he has the reputation of being one of the really nice, good guys in the industry. And he came from a pretty high profile family. His dad was a Heisman Trophy winner in college, his mom was a former actress and yet, he's pretty unaffected by the whole celebrity thing. And I watch NCIS like I used to watch the old Law and Orders when Jerry Orbach was on them. Can't ever miss it.

Why didn't you mention his wife Pam

I agree. Where is McGee? Is he being written out?

Can someone explain to me why successful shows involving an unmarried central character always feel compelled to mess with the chemistry of the show by introducing a love interest for the character? I can think of numerous successful shows that lost their punch because of this tactic. Men don't have many TV shows where the characters don't have a wife, home, 9 - 5 job and 2.3 kids to go home to every night. We need a true action show fix and are willing to leave the romantic story lines to Gray's Anatomy. Can any of you say that you enjoyed the story line (turned plot twist) between Tony and Jeanne Benoit? I enjoy NCIS because of the dedication and personality of Gibbs and his crew. I like that they kill bad guys and not read them their rights. I don't care if they get laid or not. The point during the series where Gibbs was involved with the female Army Lt. Colonel were so sappy that it detracted from the story line. I do like the occasional sparks between Tony and Ziva and Gibbs and Jenny Shepherd (RIP) and whoever McGee is dating but not a significant portion of the story line dedicated to this. If they try to develop a romance between Gibbs and Curtis she will have him working 9 - 5 and locking his front door.

In some of the early episodes they showed Gibbs being picked up by a woman (or maybe it was different women) with red hair. I think the hint of a love interest has always been there but the good thing about this show is that they don't over do it (like Gray's Anatomy). I think the Benoit story line was of interest because it got into the ethics of how far someone goes while undercover and also the pitfalls when someone like Tony develops real feelings for the subject of the investigation.

Why did McGee get left out of all this hype? Love the show.

Guess if the show was real NCIS stuff very few folks would watch it, although there were a few presentations of the show "Real NCIS" (real cases) which were pretty good without the Hollywood spin. Haven't seen them around of late though.

I love NCIS! Just leave the main characters together on the show. Other people can come and go but not them.

I guess it's good entertainment but the show is nothing like the real NCIS. It is total fiction and its relationship with the real agency is a fantasy. I base this opinion on the fact that my brother was a for-real agent. Most of their work is not glamorous and very routine.
      • Mama 3 mths ago
We know that! This is pure fantasy and the characters are handsome and interesting.
      • PeoplesfrontofJudea 3 mths ago
who cares. Most cop work is extremely routine also.
      • Margy 3 mths ago
Hollywood has to glamorize shows to entertain us. I know it's total fiction even though I don't have any facts to back my opinion on! (You do have a point... I've read or heard about how some jurors think the stuff they see on CSI is real so they don't understand why the DA doesn't show hard proof that the defendant is guilty. Some people believe what they see on screen as gospel. Hollywood rewrites history and Europeans and others are irritated or have a good laugh over how Americans are so easily duped.)

Oh, %#($@!!! She will absolutely RUIN this show. If Curtis HAS to go on TV, put her on BURN NOTICE. At least there, Jeffrey Donovan can stuff her full of yogurt.....

Top to bottom, NCIS remains the best program on TV. A while back, just for the heck of it, I wrote down a list of the TV shows that I really enjoy and try not to miss. I came up with a list of 25! (I need help). I then made a list of the shows I would NEVER miss, the ones - in order - that I adjust the rest of my weekly schedule for if a conflict emerges. That list came down to FOUR (maybe some hope for me!). In order: (1) NCIS (2) Justified (3) Nikita (4) Hawaii Five 0. I suggest everyone makes such a list ... it's great therapy!

Wrong. We first saw Sean Murray, aka McGee, in a recurring role on JAG.
