Mark Levin: Ron Paul’s interpretation of the Constitution not always accurate [VIDEO]

Radio talk show host Mark Levin says he couldn’t vote for Texas Rep. Ron Paul in the general election even if the Texas congressman were to somehow win the Republican nomination.

“I would have to write somebody in because Ron Paul’s foreign policy is so antithetical to traditional conservative foreign policy — whether it’s [Sen. Barry] Goldwater, whether it’s [President Ronald] Reagan,” Levin said in an extensive interview with The Daily Caller.

“You know, they like to point to [Sen. Robert] Taft in the 1950s. They have two or three conservatives they can point to. I have hundreds of conservatives I can point to … I find that [foreign policy] position to be the Kucinich-McGovern wing of the Democrat Party — it’s even extreme for them.”

Levin expanded his attack on Paul beyond foreign policy.

“I have other problems with him. I don’t think his interpretation of the Constitution is always accurate,” Levin said.

“I don’t believe in secession. I think that was resolved by the Civil War. A number of people around him, including Professor Thomas D. Lorenzo, are real [President] Abraham Lincoln haters — written a whole book on all the problems with Abraham Lincoln. Last time I checked, Abraham Lincoln is like Mr. Republican. And there are other things about the guy: His newsletters. I talk about his newsletters. Has anyone read his newsletters? They are stunningly disgusting. So there are just a number of things that cause me enough trouble as a conservative, who has been in the conservative movement longer than Ron Paul because Ron Paul has been in the Libertarian movement. No, I couldn’t vote for him.”

While criticizing attacks made by other GOP contenders against Mitt Romney’s business experience, Levin also went after the former Massachusetts governor for not being “such a great capitalist.”

“On the other hand I don’t think that Mitt Romney has been such a great capitalist either,” Levin said. “Does a great capitalist put Romneycare in Massachusetts? That’s a guy that who has completely abandoned capitalism and competition and the private sector with Romneycare.”

WATCH: Levin says whom he supports in GOP primary, if he thinks Obama will win reelection and much more

In a previous segment, Levin explained to TheDC why he won’t run for elective national office and how he got the nickname “The Great One.” Check back Tuesday to see Levin discuss his latest book, “Ameritopia.”

Most of our elected officials, of both parties, in DC are DeceptiCons. They represent the big corporations and large special interest donors, not the people that thought that they were electing them.

Got to agree with you on that, they will tell you just what you want to hear till they get elected then do just as they want when they get in there !!!

Bain Capital Owns Clear Channel (Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, Etc.)

Wouldn’t it be great if a Republican presidential candidate could just buy the support of just about every major conservative talk show host in America? Well, it may not be as far-fetched as you may think.

Clear Channel owns more radio stations (850) than anyone else in the United States. They also own Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates the radio shows of Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, among others. Needless to say, Clear Channel basically owns conservative talk radio in the United States.

So who owns Clear Channel? Well, it turns out that Bain Capital is one of the primary owners of Clear Channel. Yes, you read that correctly. The company that Mitt Romney ran for so long is one of the “big bosses” over virtually all conservative talk radio in America.

Of course Mitt Romney is not running Bain Capital anymore. He is a “retired partner”, but he still has a huge financial stake in Bain Capital. We’re talking about millions upon millions of dollars. If you doubt this, just check out page 34 of this public financial disclosure report.

So if you have been wondering why so many conservative talk show hosts are being so incredibly kind to Mitt Romney, this just might be the answer.

We don't need no stinking regulations. (Paraphrasing the Republican Party)
      • Jack Singularity 4 mths ago
People probably think you're making that up, it's so blatant, but yeah, Romney used to run Bain, and Bain owns Clear Channel, and Clear Channel owns Limbaugh, Levin, and the rest.

If you ever listen to those shows, you can tell after a while from the voices and their inflections that the callers are the same group of actors reading from scripts. This has actually been publicly exposed, check the Internet, people!.
      • Mark 4 mths ago
These shows are very popular and make alot of money. Thank God for the "great one" and his friends. If you want the truth, watch MSNBC and FOX. You make the decision. Why would someone say,"Don't listen to Levin or Limbaugh?" If they are so wrong, why not listen and expose them as frauds? They prefer to stick their heads in the sand. What are these people? Cattle!!!!! MOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    • M. C. L.  •  4 mths ago
The article title is misleading because it never explained why Ron Paul's interpretation of the Constitution is inaccurate.
      • Dataman 4 mths ago
It's just HIS opinion. What's yours? Personally, I don't think much of Levin or most so-called conservatives. I tend to be independent. And I read the Constitution myself, and I like to read the historical Supreme Court rulings and the explanations on why they ruled the way they did. I think they really screwed the pooch on Citizens United. And I thought I liked Ron Paul until I learned more about him. He's crazy.
      • Miss C 4 mths ago
once again the media is trying to steer people away from ron paul because they dont like him, the media needs to let people think for themselves by showing all the facts good & bad about ALL candidates, rather than make who they want look good and make everyone else look bad.
      • Me 4 mths ago
Ron Paul has repeatedly advocated for a reduction or even suspension of centralized government, repealing the fourth and fourteenth amendments, rolling back U.S. foreign policy to an isolationist stance and removing the Fed.

I agree it would be nice if more of his policies are enumerated when people object to him and when they support him. It's much easier to see how much of a radical nut-job he is when one knows where he stands.
    • Maynerd  •  4 mths ago
Levin mentions traditional conservative foreign policy and names Taft, Reagan, Goldwater, and others, and then states that the last time he checked, Abe Lincoln was "Mr. Republican".
Yet, the creator and first member of the original Republican Party and therefore, the real "Mr. Republican", was Thomas Jefferson, whose own foreign policy advised...Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations...entangling alliances with none.
      • DHC 4 mths ago
The point he was making is that RP are secessionist and Lincoln haters Which has alot to do with his newsletters they are very racial Put two and two together on this
      • Jack Singularity 4 mths ago
If you truly cared about racism, you wouldn't support candidates who support racial profiling and refer to the Palestinians as the Invented People.

The repubes have been pushing for a war in Iran before they get the bomb and stop them anyway possible. All except Paul, and he is just silly with some of his ideas. If they use a bomb--nuke them. Plain and simple. Kill them all. End of problem.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”
      --Patrick Henry

If LEVIN interprets it in any way that contradicts the above, then LEVIN has it wrong.

Ron Paul has a different opinion of the constitution ....yeah....so do 310 million americans....even the 9 top judges cant always agree ....but we like his view ....so what if we quit protecting the world ...we're broke!! I am sure Ron Paul would support troops in Japan if they paid the true costs of keeping them there as "insurance" ....or in south korea...or mideast....Paul in 2012

    • Mitt Romney  •  Boston, Massachusetts  •  4 mths ago
These people aren't real republicans, they are chickenhawk warmongers, and they have sleazy little shills like Levin trying to spin everything. If this little Levin turd wants a war with Iran then we can outfit him with a M-16 and dump his behind in the desert with Rush, Hannity, and Beck and they can go ahead and invade Iran. Stop killing my brothers with your wars.
    • GD21(D)  •  4 mths ago
"I don't believe in secession"? Does this guy have any idea what the Constitution is? Or why the civil war was fought? Or better yet why the South seceded from the Union? Does anyone read anymore? What's most disturbing is that people will actually base their views off of what he says and he seems completely off base as far as his ideas of the Constitution and secession.

Mark Levin ; who is in my opinion a NeoCon ,who would not vote for Ron Paul because Ron Paul is against Foreign Aid and against fighting wars for other countries. We invaded Iraq for israel, something Ron Paul never would have done.

      Statement from Sen. Tom Davis

“It’s easy to campaign on lower taxes, less spending and fewer regulations – it’s another thing entirely to stand up for these limited government principles when the entire Washington establishment is aligned against you. Yet for more than three decades Ron Paul has cast thousands of lonely votes in our nation’s capital based on the constitutional principles that this country was founded on – and that the Republican Party has promised to protect. Yet while generations of politicians – including far too many Republicans – were losing their way or caving to the status quo, Ron Paul was standing as a Tea Party of one against a towering wave of red ink.

“2012 marks the fifth consecutive year in which the federal government is going to spend well over $1 trillion in money it doesn’t have. Each and every American taxpayer is now on the hook for $135,000 worth of federal debt – and last year’s debt deal adds another $7 trillion in deficit spending over the coming decade. Meanwhile the U.S. Senate hasn’t passed a budget in nearly 1,000 days.

“I’m endorsing Ron Paul because enough is enough. Despite this wave of unprecedented government spending, our unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for the last 34 months and 146.4 million Americans – one out of every two people in this country – are now classified as poor or low-income.

“Government activism and government intervention clearly hasn’t fixed our economy – which is why the Republican Party needs a nominee who isn’t wedded to that failed approach. We won’t chart a path to fiscal solvency or victory in November by running toward the failed ideas of the left – we will achieve those victories by returning to the principles that the Republican Party once stood for.

“That is why I am proud to endorse Ron Paul for president.

“Ron Paul’s record matches his rhetoric, his fiscal plan matches the fiscal challenges that our nation is facing and his movement represents the taxpayers whose interests have been ignored in the political process for far too long.

“I’m also endorsing him because unlike what the pundits have led you to believe, he is the candidate who gives the Republican Party the best chance to beat Barack Obama in November.

“We have a choice: We can keep electing candidates who talk about change only during political campaigns as a way to get elected, or we can finally elect a candidate who will walk the walk and make that change a reality – restoring our bottom line, our individual liberties and our national pride in the process.”
