Mark Zuckerberg Gives Another Huge Gift to Public Schools

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be donating $120 million to San Francisco-area schools. This is the second-largest education donation he has made in the last four years.

Zuckerberg made the donation along with his wife, Priscilla Chan. The donation was given through their charity foundation, Startup:Education. The foundation's goals include upgrading technology in school districts with large needs and creating leadership training for teachers and administrators. The donation will be spread out over the next five years.

In 2010, Zuckerberg launched Startup:Education with a $100 million gift to Newark, New Jersey, schools. Despite the very generous assist, the reform effort it fueled has come under fire from some education activists who say the plans for spending the money were not well organized, and improvements in the schools have failed to materialize.

Still, the foundation will continue its work to improve struggling public schools, but that doesn't mean you should be using Facebook while you're in class, kids.
