Actor Martin Sheen will receive a Career Achievement Award during the Chicago International Film Festival Summer Gala on August 19, 2011, at the AMC River East 21.
The red carpet ceremony will include the awards presentation to Martin Sheen, hosted by the legendary local broadcaster and journalist Bill Kurtis, and the Chicago film premiere of "The Way," which stars Sheen and his son Emilio Estevez, who also wrote and directed the film. The movie, which is described as "a powerful, inspirational, and often amusing story about family, friends, and the challenge of navigating through an ever-changing world," is set to open in theaters in October 2011.
The bash will feature a question-and-answer session with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez immediately following the film screening, and the event concludes with a reception at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers with cocktails, live entertainment, and a silent auction.
This esteemed accomplishment is another well-deserved honor for the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winner. Sheen has appeared in more than 65 feature films and is best remembered for his stunning work in the Francis Ford Coppolla classic "Apocalypse Now" and his television portrayal of President Bartlett in "The West Wing."
Martin Sheen's impressive career highlights also include "Wall Street," starring Michael Douglas and Sheen's son, Charlie; "Gandhi" with Sir Ben Kingsley; "The American President," and a Tony Award-nominated role he originated on Broadway in "The Subject Was Roses."
This is a rare opportunity to be part of the excitement and glamorous side of Hollywood, right here in Chicago. When I lived in Los Angeles, these types of red carpet events took place on a near-daily basis. You would see celebrities, studio executives, managers, press, media, photographers, and fans everywhere, with limos lining the streets outside a Hollywood movie theater or arena.
If you would like to attend the Summer Gala event to honor Martin Sheen, you can order your tickets and find out more information by going to the Chicago International Film Festival website.
