Masked intruders injure homeowner, leave empty-handed

Police are investigating a terrifying home invasion in which several masked intruders broke in to a home in Redlands, injuring one of the residents as another tried to fight them off with a cane.

It happened Sunday on the 700 block of Concord Lane, according to the Redlands Police Department stated.

Police say four to five masked suspects set off the home’s alarm system when they kicked open a rear door just before 1 a.m. and confronted the residents, one of whom attempted to fight off the suspects with a cane.

The intruders also went upstairs, woke the couple’s adult son and forced him downstairs with the rest of the family.

Details are limited and it’s unclear what exactly happened next, but authorities say the suspects eventually left empty-handed.

Responding officers set up a perimeter in the area and searched the neighborhood but the suspects were able to get away.

During the ordeal, one of the residents was injured, tripping and hitting her head as she tried to get away from the intruders. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and her current condition is unclear.

The break-in remains under investigation and police have not said if there is a clear motive at this time.
