Max Verstappen and Red Bull F1 Could Face $32,000 Fine for Ski Slope Stunt

Apparently, Red Bull never got permission to blast its Formula 1 car up the Austrian ski slope. Oops.

From Road & Track

Remember how, last week, Formula 1's teen sensation Max Verstappen blasted his Red Bull ride across an Austrian ski slope? We thought it was a hilarious stunt-with studded tires and snow chains, the F1 car actually handled the snow fantastically.

Unfortunately, it seems local authorities weren't so pleased.

According to local Austrian news outlet Tiroler Tageszeitung, administrative proceedings have been filed against Red Bull in response to the stunt, as the team doesn't seem to have gotten official approval before unleashing Verstappen on the powder.

Michael Berger, director of the Kitzbuhel ski slope where the stunt took place, told Tiroler Tageszeitung that, if the organizers had applied for a permit, there would be no problem. As it stands, Red Bull could face a fine of up to $32,000 for driving a vehicle outside of normal traffic areas.

As the herky-jerky Google translation of the Tiroler Tageszeitung article so aptly puts it, "the maximum penalty for such offenses would be juicy with 30,000 euros, but Red Bull would probably pay out of petty cash." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
