May Auto Sales: General Motors

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. said Monday that its May U.S. sales rose 3 percent, led by the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Detroit automaker said it sold 252,894 cars and trucks last month, up from 245,256 a year earlier. It was the company's best month since September of 2008.

TOP SELLERS: Silverado sales were up 25 percent to 43,283. The GMC Sierra big pickup also saw an increase, up 22 percent to 16,061.

HOT MODELS: Chevy Tahoe SUV with sales up 29 percent to 9,243. Chevrolet Sonic subcompact sales up 32 percent to 9,523.
