It May Look Appetising But This Feast Is Made Out Of STONES

These pictures will no doubt make you feel hungry but anyone hoping to tuck in to anything on display is likely to get a broken tooth.

The incredible feast on display is actually made entirely out of rare stones and has been the centre of attention at an exhibition in China this week.

Over 100 of the dishes are on display at the three-day Beijing International Tourism Expo 2015, and tourists have been wowed by lifelike versions of Chinese cuisine - including pork, buns and vegetables.

Stone carving is actually part of an ancient Chinese art that is only recently being given a fresh look after stonemasons began competing with one another to turn natural stones into food in ever more inventive ways.

The banquet of stones on display at the expo features rare rocks including petrified wood, agate, jade, malachite and volcanic rock.

They are selling for an astonishing £20,500.

Chinese stonemason artist An Fu, 43, said: “Carving of stone has been around in China for thousands of years, traditionally using jade and turning it into things like dragons, snakes, fish or turtles.

"Carving of stones into food is something that has only been happening more recently, and reflects the enormous variety, texture and range of stone as a material.

“People like myself will either look at the food and think what stone might best illustrate it, or alternatively will look in a block of stone and try and see what type of food is expressed there and trying to escape.

“We just have to carve away the excess stone to free the shape inside.”

Let’s just hope they don’t mix up the fake food with the real thing or a lot of dentists will be celebrating Christmas early.
