McAfee to acquire firewall company StoneSoft in $389 million deal

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Software company McAfee Inc. said Monday that it will acquire firewall product maker StoneSoft Corp. for about $389 million.

McAfee said the purchase of the Finnish company will extend its global leadership position in network security and provide customers with unparalleled security.

"McAfee is making a significant investment in next-generation firewall technology. These solutions anticipate emerging customer needs in a continually evolving threat landscape," Michael DeCesare, McAfee's president, said in a statement.

McAfee, based in Santa Clara, Calif., is owned by Intel Corp. Intel's shares fell 7 cents to $23.89 in afternoon trading Monday. They have traded in a 52-week range of $19.23 to $28.38.
